Wendy Sturgeon is a business consultant for NJSBDC at TCNJ, specializing in business certifications, developing business capability statements, as well as preparing for and pursuing opportunities in government procurement.

Following more than 45 years of a highly successful career, Wendy Sturgeon formed Ask Wendy, LLC, (https://askwendyllc.com) a New Jersey State Certified Small Business and Woman Business Enterprise. Ask Wendy is devoted to helping small and diverse businesses understand and navigate opportunities with government procurement and increase their visibility.

Wendy joined the Mercer County Small Business Outreach Department in 2018. During her years at the county, Wendy developed a relationship with Woman Owned, Minority Owned, Veteran Owned and Small Business Enterprises, assisting them with government procurement opportunities in support of Mercer County’s Set-Aside Ordinance and the certification process with the State of New Jersey. In addition, Wendy was instrumental in forming The County Collaborative, comprised of counties with Set-Aside ordinances; Essex, Hudson, Bergen County, and the New Jersey Procurement Technical Assistance Center. The collaborative created a platform for businesses to communicate with government through monthly virtual meetings, learn about current opportunities and become more educated regarding the procurement process.

Wendy was a key contributor for Mercer County’s disparity study, and developed the Mercer County New Jersey State Certified Diverse Vendor Directory, where New Jersey State Certified businesses are listed along with their Capability Statement, for free, on the Mercer County website.

Wendy’s experience prior to joining Mercer County, was in marketing and advertising working with businesses throughout New Jersey, New England, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New York State. Wendy was a former President of the Hamilton Economic Development Advisory Commission, served on Mercer County Executive Dan Benson’s Transition Team for Economic Development, provides counseling services for the Small Business Development Center at the College of New Jersey, is a member of the New Jersey Association for Woman Business Owners, and active in several organizations that promote diversity.
